“I am going to be a mermaid.”
“I am going to be the strongest superhero alive!”
If only we still had the imagination of a child who believes they can be anything they want to be.
Unfortunately, at some point in our lives, we all stop believing we can be a superhero or a princess and start putting limits on our potential by putting limits on the narrative we tell ourselves. These limitations shape our destiny and often we aren’t even aware of the narrative we are using.
The most important statement we make that shapes our future is “I am ______ .”
Often this statement is used to limit our potential and stops us from going after the life we want to live. We give it an external authority that we’ve allowed to influence us.
“I am shy and will never be a public speaker.”
“I am not smart enough to become a scientist.”
“I am not a leader and could never start my own business.”
So, what is the narrative you are writing for yourself? What “I am” statements do you see shaping your destiny and which ones would you like to change?
Those words illuminate the path you walk down. By becoming aware of the "I am" statements in your life, you can see how they have shaped your life.
Awareness of these statements in our lives is a superpower. Because until we are conscious of what narrative we are telling ourselves, we will live into that destiny.
It is important to reflect on and refine the story we have been telling ourselves. Script a future completely different from your past that will not allow you to be confined by what you think you are meant to do and who you are meant to be.
Think like a child again. Let your imagination run wild with possibilities.
While we might not be able to be the next greatest superhero, we can use our superpower of awareness to unlock our greatest genius and fulfill our greatest destiny.
