"Truth is not something you have… It's something you choose."
— James McPartland
Do you prefer that people tell you the truth, or do you want them to lie to you so that your feelings don't get hurt? Do you speak the truth to people you care about, or do you sometimes lie to them to spare their feelings? Though we know we don't want to be lied to, we have a tendency to assume that other people want us to lie to them.
When we genuinely care for someone, we don't try to make them feel okay. We allow them to feel pain -- through truth that sometimes hurts, and we help them identify what needs to be done to move through it.
For each of us, bringing forth what we know to be true will strengthen us. Alternatively, if we choose not to bring forth what we know to be true, it may shatter us.
