Access Point: Building a Better Narrative

“Most of us don't believe we can rewrite our story. Most of us don't realize that we are telling ourselves a lethal story that we believe is true when, in fact, we can silence it, rewrite it, building a new and better narrative" — James McPartland

Access Point: Building a Better Narrative | Blog post by James McPartland | Speaker, Author, Executive Coach

At the end of our lives, we won't remember the thoughts or intentions we had, but we will remember the actions we took. We’ll judge ourselves by how we showed up, what we said, how we acted, and whether we performed the way we knew we could in any of our stages of life.

At the end of your life, will you be able to say: “I left nothing behind. I gave it my all. I did everything I wanted to do and I showed up as my best self with all of my capabilities, skills, and raw potential. Because of how I played the game, my actions toppled obstacles that changed my life in extraordinary and unpredictable ways. And because of my philosophy, I owned my story and lived an amazing life.”

Life happens moment by moment, situation by situation. At this exact moment, we all get to decide who we are going to be, how we are going to show up, and how we will write the vital chapters of our life story.

So, at this exact moment when the world is awash in uncertainty and fear…

WHO are you going to be? And what story are you going to live into?

You can choose to narrate a "be better" moment right now.

If you find yourself with time on your hands (something you perhaps believed you didn't have enough of) how will you invest it?

What skills can you master?

What courses will you take?

What books will you read?

What relationships will you go deeper with?

How will you improve your health?

How will you stand guard at the gate of your mind, careful about who and what you let in?

Who needs you to be an example of strength right now?

How will this chapter of your life fit into the most empowering narrative you are capable of creating?

What we get in life is important, yet it is who we are becoming that holds redeeming value. What we all need right now is an empowering story, a gift of inspiration about the people who demonstrated the courage required to draw a line in the sand and say "I am rewriting my story".

Let’s look back at this difficult situation we find ourselves in, and become the people we know deep down we are truly capable of becoming. Let’s use this time to sculpt our souls, tap into our greatest potential, face our fears, and exemplify the examples that we have been waiting for others to be for us.

When the world moves past this painful point in time, let’s have become better able to say we made a great impact.

Moment by moment, situation by situation, starting right here and right now-- you get to build a positive narrative.

Why not you? Why not now?
