"If you want to move past our own self-imposed limitations, go on a fact-finding, fact-facing journey and really evaluate your internal agreements" -James McPartland
You want to know what really drives your actions? The AGREEMENTS you make.
Look, I've made every mistake in the book while gaining it all and then nearly losing it all in business, and I promise you this:
If you want to move past our self-imposed limitations, go on a fact-finding, fact-facing journey and really evaluate your internal agreements.
Give me one minute and I'll break down what I mean:
Our lives are literally driven by hundreds of agreements we make every day.
We kiss our families goodbye in the morning, in agreement we'll see them again at the end of the day.
We all then get in our cars to drive to work, in agreement that everyone driving will obey the rules of the road.
We arrive at work in agreement that everyone has a job to do and the company will pay us for our work on payday.
But we're driven by internal agreements too - the ones we make with ourselves that are operating subconsciously on auto-pilot. These are the agreements we need to become aware of and pay closer attention to:
Things like:
“If I get more money, then I will be happy.”
"I just don't have enough time."
"I should have been promoted a long time ago.
They will never acknowledge or appreciate me here."
“This is the way my team should be performing."
Pull back the curtain and take a look at what's under the hood of your mental engine.
👉 Where are you operating on truth and where are you making excuses?
👉 Where can you take responsibility and stop shifting the blame?
👉 Where do your narratives no longer serve you and need to be swapped out for more empowering ones?
Make this mental exercise a part of your regular check-in with yourself. Regularly evaluate the agreements you're making and swap out any that no longer serve you for more empowering ones where needed.
Do this, and your actions will align to bring about the results you really want in life.
Try that, and watch out for more of the No Straight Lines series!
Til next time,
Mac 😎
